THE BYERLEY TURK
In 1687 a British Cavalry Officer, Captain Byerley, took a horse, as the
spoils of war, from a Turkish Cavalryman in Eastern Europe.
The horse later to be known as the Byerley Turk, found it's way to stud in Ireland, after carrying the Captain, then a Colonel, at the Battle of the Boyne.
At stud he sired many foals. They were very succesful and in time the Horse world noticed that his were particularly successful. which were tested on the track in England.
Could the Byerley Turk have come from the Turkic peoples of Central Asia?
