"If you really want to find the secrets of Islam, you will find them in Bukhara" George Gurjieff There is
a belief amongst some people in the west, and many in Asia, that Truth
and Knowledge are eternal, unchanging, and that they can be reached and
understood through the different practises of Spirituality. |
One
needs to add the Astrologers, Psychics and certain Artists, Musicians to
the list to complete the picture. These people have played an integral part, for many Centuries, in the daily life of the people and rulers of Central Asia. 70 years of communism have left their mark on this region but the people here are now free to practise and rebuild their Religion without outside interference. When Gurjieff spoke of needing to visit Bukhara to truly understand Islam he was referring to a far more profound world than the world of Islam so commonly represented to us in the West. At the centre of the Bukharan form of Islam was then, as it still is today, the Naqshbandi Sufi Tradition. Previous : Next |
