This may
have been what saved the Naqshbandi order from extinction during Soviet
times when the Communists implemented devastating Religious purges amongst
their own people as well as the other Nationalities who fell under their
rule during this period. spread through the minority areas as well as
the Russian parts of Asia.were exacted by the communist party. so well
known in Brotherhoodis a of this brotherhood who can be found today throughout
the world. They are quite different to other Sufi groups. Their efforts
have been integral to the success of many of the religious struggles waged
to protect Islam against domination by outside influences.

In fact
they were the only religious group not to be infiltrated or broken by
the K.G.B. during Communist times when they were lead by Sheikh Mohammed
Nozim-Al Haqqani who was based in the Bukhara region. Naqshbandis are
very closely involved with the reinstatement of Islam in Central Asia
now that the Communist times are over. Naqshbandi influence can be found
within all of the other Sufi brotherhoods, Dervish, Chishti and Mevlevi
yet they appear to have been passed over by western observers. One of
the primary goals of this journey was to make contact with Naqshbandi's
and to learn something of their tradition.
